Deformation of Braided Fishing Lines
Nobody should think that the shelf life of rope lines is infinite, although rope lines last much longer than nylon lines, they have a shelf life. Harmful UV light destroys the structure of the carbon molecule of the polymers, and a much longer life can be achieved in non-sunlight environments. However, as it is known, harmful UV light is always present in the environment, even if there is little. The high-tech silicone and plastic-based coated ropes produced in the world in recent years are more resistant to friction, better distance, quieter, and higher pulling power.
In technology, this color coating technique is often called plastisol color coating, and thanks to this high-tech color coating, the colors are minimally affected by water. Some companies are trying to increase the life of the rope by using vinyl coatings. example: (Tuf-line, ice line). The vinyl plastisol technique is used by rope line producers. Vinyl is an organic compound bonded with a hydrogen atom, a derivative of ethylene, while another derivative, vinylidene, is formed by combining with carbon atoms. Fluorocarbon (vinylidene fluoride) is a fluoropolymer composed of carbon and fluorine atoms.
Another derivative is called Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coated. It is used as a coating on coated ropes especially used in carp and ice fishing. These are manufactured with a thick coating in order not to be affected by external factors (mussels, stones, etc.). In addition, today fluoropolymer fibers are used by many companies in line technology. The most widely used fluoropolymer in the industry is TEFLON, a thermoplastic material that was discovered by the Dupont company in 1938, and thus fluoroplastics entered the literature as a branch of thermoplastics.
Teflon is a type of fluoroplastic called POLITETRAFLOROETİLEN (PTFE), it consists of carbon and fluorine atoms. It has the highest operating temperature range among all engineering plastics. It has much higher chemical resistance than other plastics, a low friction coefficient, a structure that is not affected by water, and a non-stick surface. In addition, fluoropolymer (GORE PTFE) fibers developed by Gore serve the industry in the same way. (example; suffix 832 gore fiber)
When these fibers are used in a fishing line; They are the best fibers used in the industry in terms of their sinking structure, providing a great advantage for shooting in windy weather, reducing vibration and noise, preventing water retention, slippery structure, and also preventing abrasion. These fibers can have a lifespan of 30 years. Companies develop different products by combining these fibers with Dyneema spectra fibers. Its most important feature is its low friction coefficient. Fluoroplastic (fluoroplastics) types:

Casting the Farthest: Use of Leader and Braided Fishing Line
The most preferred range in LRF hunts is the braided rope range up to 0.08mm. 4 layers of braided kendo 0.074mm rope lines are also used. (The more the number of layers, the less water retention will be). The range is 10-20% more than the monoline due to the fact that braided rope can be opened faster (Memory) and has a high water-holding capacity compared to mono line. This is the first reason why braided threads are used. Braided lines are preferred in order to cast the line as far as possible. A second situation is a difference between the line of that thickness and the pulling force. In other words, while the strength of 0.074 braided rope is 3.5 kg, it becomes 2.5 kg for 0.14 mono line (rough).
One of its advantageous parts is the rope, since it is not flexible (let’s say it is around 3-5%), you can feel it in your hand when the fish hits. If your line is flexible, these strokes will be lost due to the flexibility of the line and may reduce the feeling. But rope lines are rarely preferred in LRF hunting. I think the reasons for this are price and not seen as necessary. If you are going to use braided rope, I will talk about Kendo braided again (the most used and affordable); When the fish looks from below, they will be able to see the line lying on the water. (This is more valid for thicker threads. But we use thinner threads for LRF, but let’s keep this criterion in mind.)
As for the color thing, you may prefer green rope as you see green while looking at the water, but I think that when the fish looks up, they will see that rope in the blue sky. So the leader will affect your efficiency. Line and visibility are directly proportional to hunting. I personally observed that my yield decreased in the hunts I made without a leader. Also, for the advantage of the leader, the rope can be wrapped in the jighead while shooting (if you are using it without a leader). But when it has a leader, it eliminates this problem because it is harder. Also, since the stretch of the rope is very low, the leader actually provides this stretch and dampens the great pressure on the knot. As the power on the knot decreases, the incidence of bursting from the knot decreases to a bit.
Leader FC lines are usually sold 50 meters. The reason for this is not for you to tie them all in front of you. Leader length is the length of the line you left for shooting so that it does not enter through the loop at the very end of the rod. I think this is around 50-70 cm for me. If it is longer or if this leader is wrapped in the reel, a snag of the rod as it exits its last ring reduces the range of the shot. Therefore, I think it is a trick that those who have a narrow ring at the end of the rod should pay more attention.
While the jighead’s maximum reach is 30 meters (in calm weather), if you connect 50 meters of fluorocarbon (FC) line, you will use an FC line instead of using a rope. As for FC line thickness, I made a 50 cm leader with 0.18mm mono on a 0.074mm mesh. If FC lines are of good quality, they are slightly salty, so you can try the mono line. If I decide to use braided rope, I have to learn knots. The leader knot is important. I liked the tying technique called Blood Knot.
If it gets caught in the jighead when using braided rope, the first place it will break will be the clip connection or knot. I used to be very angry because the lines were breaking off the knot. Let it break from the knot. Because, if the knot does not burst, if you force it with the rod, your rod will break (SEE: The sad end of my amateurishness). If you are using a fishing line, learn the Leader knot well so that when the knot bursts or breaks in your fishing, you can make a leader with the fishing line next to you.
Tip: If the leader ties the knot and both nodes are facing the reed rather than the jighead, that’s an advantage. How? If you carelessly passed the leader knot from the very end ring, so you wrapped it too much, it will not hang when throwing it because the knot ends remain inside. Or in your long leader preferences, it is an advantage to have the node ends facing inward. Finally, if you put the reel head in water when you come home, you can extend the life of the braided yarn.
Using Braided Fishing Line in LRF to Cast the Farthest
A braided rope is a product that is used by wrapping several layers (generally 4 or 8 layers of weave), increasing the shooting range, and holding water according to the winding layer. The less water it holds (the more the layer weave, the less water retention) the less deformed it will be. It is definitely not prolonged. Since it does not stretch, it makes fish strokes feel clearer and more effective. Although 0.06 mm thread is the most ideal for Lrf, it can be used up to 0.10mm. Of course, it should be used by attaching a leader in front of it. When choosing, the priority is the price and the next criterion is the thickness.
Of course, there are a few more criteria, such as the pulling strength and how many layers it is wrapped. 0.06 mm is the optimum used thickness (varies from region to region). The next criterion is that the braided line is 8-fold or 16-fold. This reduces water retention. The less water it absorbs, the more its decay will be delayed, it gives confidence in prey, and the more saltwater deformation is reduced. At the same time, imagine that 16 monolines are wrapped and strengthened by getting strength from each other.
The rope will primarily increase the efficiency (said to affect between 20-40%). You will feel the strokes and all the actions you will give to the tip of the rod more hard and clear. The 50cm leader that you will attach in front of it will provide the feeling in the strokes with its hard structure and invisibility with the proximity of the refractive index to water. If you tie the knots correctly, the feel and range will be higher than the mono line. The disadvantage is that both the rope and the leader are expensive.
A braided line may have a longer life or shorter than a normal line when not cleaned. If you clean it after each hunt, the deformity of the braided rope will be less. But again, it differs very, very much from quality to quality. Just as the maintenance of vehicles varies according to the road and model used, so is the life for fishing lines and braided ropes.
In freshwater, the lines are not deformed with saltwater and can be used for a long time. But ultimately, the line can also be affected under the sun or in the heat due to its structure. Even if not all of them, since it is located on the reel head, it takes that head structure and it starts to create problems in range while throwing the line. I am in favor of changing the lines that have taken the shape of the reel in freshwater. In general, you can extend the life of the fishing line and braided ropes by pouring water on the reel after the hunt, whether it is fresh or saltwater.
Although they say that there is no need for rope in Lrf hunting, the range of LRF shots from the shore is around 30 meters, sometimes the choice of a rope leader for satisfactory results provides a further reach. Also, because the feel of the rope leader duo is higher than mono, it is the reason to be preferred, although the price of monoline is half of the price of the rope.
